Reflections

In any relationship, there needs to be mutual love and respect especially in respect to those older than us.  Showing proper respect is not an Eastern Culture quality alone but is thoroughly biblical.  Leviticus 19:32 (NIV) Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.   Did you notice that God put in the same sentence the honouring of the elderly with the revering of God?  By honouring the elderly, we are revering God and His ways.  If we revere God, we would honour the elderly.  Afterall, God is the infinitely elderly. 


In fact, so strongly does God view the importance of honouring the elderly and our parents, He puts a curse on those who dishonour their parents.  Duet 27:16 (NIV) Cursed is the man who dishonors his father or his mother. 

Let's always show proper honour to the elderly.
