The Right and Wrong Kind of Contentment

What are you contented with?  And what ought you not?  

 

Phil 4:11-12 (NIV)  11…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 

 

Scriptures teaches us to be content with whatever worldly and material blessings.  But it never teaches us to be contented with our spiritual stature.  

 

Phil 3:10 (NIV)  I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 

 

Paul was an old man when he wrote this letter.  Yet he was still not satisfied with his experience of God.  He wanted more.  


Phil 3:12-14 (NIV)  Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.   Are you too contented with your spiritual stature and uncontented with worldly matters?
