I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Scriptures teaches us to be content with whatever worldly and material blessings. But it never teaches us to be contented with our spiritual stature. Phil 3:10 (NIV) I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Paul was an old man when he wrote this letter. Yet he was still not satisfied with his experience of God. He wanted more. Phil 3:12-14 (NIV) Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.     Reflections Wilson Lim 8 February 2023 Why is it so crucial that Jesus is alive? 
 Why is it so crucial that Jesus is alive? One of main elements of the living hope we have is that Jesus Himself is alive! That is why there is no grave of Jesus, no dead body to be found. Bible records how it happened. Guarded by a troop of elite Roman soldiers, placed in a sealed tomb with a large rock closing the entrance. The body disappeared! Because Jesus resurrected. That is why our hope is a living hope. It is not a dead hope! Imagine if someone told you that a cure has being discovered for all kinds of cancer by a scientist. And you are so excited you want to meet this scientist. And your friend tells you that he died last month from cancer! What sort of hope is that? That is why the resurrection is so fundamental to the Christian faith. Jesus alive is prove of our hope! It proves our hope is founded on reality! 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… What do you think?     Reflections Wilson Lim 18 January 2024 Perfect Timing When we say, "God does not answer my prayers" - God says He will answer them. When the time is exactly right. And that time will be soon even if it seems like a long delay. (William Backus) In our journey of faith, it is essential that we cultivate patience as we wait before the Lord. Instead of rushing ahead, we should trust that He always has our best interests at heart. The Lord, in His infinite wisdom and love, knows the perfect timing and the perfect plan for our lives. Though we may be eager or tempted to forge our own path, it is in patiently waiting upon the Lord that we discover His divine guidance and blessings. When we exercise patience, we acknowledge our dependence on God and surrender our desires to His will. We recognize that His timing is impeccable, and His ways surpass our limited understanding. As we wait before Him, we cultivate a posture of humility and trust, knowing that He is working all things together for our good.     Reflections Wilson Lim 5 June 2024 How valuable is the Scriptures to us? How valuable is the Scriptures to us? God has provided us His Word in order to help us to understand His ways and to live according to it. The Scriptures contains not the wisdom of man but the wisdom of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 - 17 (NIV) 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Warren Buffett is probably the one of the most successful, if not the most successful investor in the world. He is the second or third wealthiest man in the world. So legendary is his skills in investment that people have paid up to $2 million to charity, just to lunch with him. God is far wiser than Warren Buffet. God who is all knowing, who is all wise has chosen to reveal some of His wisdom to us through His Word. Rather than pay $2 million to lunch with Warren Buffet, I rather put my life trusting in God’s Word. A better investment of my life.     Reflections Wilson Lim 3 September 2025 The urgency of God Do we at times sense the urgency of God? God spoke to Moses to urgently go in Exodus 3:16 (NIV) 16  "Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-- appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. The Kairos timing of God was now, God made it clear that he had heard the cry of the Israelites and now was the season to fulfil his promise of deliverance. ‘Go’ is a verb that carries an urgency to act upon God’s instruction. God was commanding Moses to go immediately. The matter was urgent to God. When there is urgency to the call it usually heightens one's sense of purpose. Not only is the mission important, it is so important and so urgent that one is compelled to act immediately. It can burn in our hearts so strongly that we cannot let it lie. Jer 20:9(NIV) …his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot. We must learn to be quick to obey. Procrastination is a sign that we do not appreciate God's timing. In other words we pride ourselves in our own sense of timing. Let us instead resonate with God's urgency in our hearts.     Reflections Wilson Lim 5 January 2022 Freedom from the past We may be able to escape from some consequences from our past, but we are unlikely to escape from it all. Especially when it is a sin against a Holy God. It is far better if we can resolve some of these issues before the consequences catches up with us. Jesus taught in Matt 5:25 (NIV) “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.  God does not want us to be constrained by our past. He wants us to be set free from such constrains! He wants to helps us address the consequences from our past. Rather than fleeing our past, we can face our past.     Reflections Wilson Lim 5 October 2022 God's perspective on disappointing situations... Have you ever considered that God's perspective on disappointing situations may be very different from yours? When Moses was rejected by Pharoah and greatly disappointed, God began to reveal His perspective on the whole matter. To Moses it was a disaster. To God, everything was proceeding as He expected. Moses had not fully understood what was going to happen. God had told Moses earlier that Pharaoh will not let the Israelite slaves go easily. Ex 3:19-20 (NIV) 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. 20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go. The situation will require God to compel Pharaoh through striking the Egyptians with divine force. In other words there was going to be a battle of wills between God and Pharaoh. It was going to be tough. People will get hurt due to the stubbornness of Pharaoh. But it will come to a point where Pharaoh will have no choice but even drive the Israelites out. Things were going to get worse, before it gets better. The important thing is Moses listened to God and hence was able to re-align his personal views to that of God's.     Reflections Wilson Lim 5 June 2024 Cycle of self-indulgence 2 Timothy 3:2-4 (NIV) People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money … lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. The self-centred can progressively become more self-indulgent, spending more and more on themselves for themselves. If we look at where society is headed today, we see clearer the extent of self-indulgence amongst especially the westernized cultures. The size of the cosmetics market is estimated to be $1.5 billion annually in Australia alone and about US$330 billion in the world. Cosmetics for men is a rapidly increasing market. Some men today spend more on cosmetics than the average woman. We are a self-indulgent society that is splashing billions of dollars each year in looking good, in cosmetics, in clothes, etc. Now I am not saying that women (and man) should not spend anything on looking good! But the issue is whether we are becoming over-indulgent in our spending. The self-centred focus on gaining more that they may have more for themselves. The more they have the more they want, because it means more to indulge themselves. As God’s people, we must be careful not to be trapped in this cycle of self-indulgence. We should carefully examine our spending patterns and ask ourselves if we are slipping into self-indulgence. When we indulge ourselves in such ways, we have much less to invest in what truly counts, God’s Kingdom. Instead of helping the needy, we help ourselves. The more we say yes to our fears the bigger a rut we will find ourselves in. The more we say yes to God, the more breakthroughs in our lives and ministry. God never intended us to be held back by our fears. For the Holy Spirit in us is intended to stir courage, empower us towards God's destiny for us. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) 7  For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.     Reflections Wilson Lim 4 January 2023 Would you trust God to lead you? Would you trust God to lead you? Consider this. God is omniscient. He is all-knowing. Heb 4:13 (NIV) Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. God understands everything hence he understands about the times and seasons, the circumstances that we are in. Job 37:16 (NIV) Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge? God’s knowledge is perfect. God knows everything about every factor that affect a situation and He understands exactly how it will affect the situation. In other words, He knows all there is to know about a situation. Because God knows and fully understands the circumstances we are in, He alone knows the best way to proceed. Will you trust Him to lead you through it?     Reflections Wilson Lim 9 January 2025 Fight the good fight What does it mean to fight the good fight in 1 Tim 6:12? 1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. To fight the good fight is more than just obtaining salvation at the end of our life. It is also about living according to our calling. 1 Corinthians 9:26 (NIV) Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. Besides the calling as a believer, it encompasses our calling as a minister of Christ. A boxer must fight in the right weight division. The heaviest go to the heavyweight.     Reflections Wilson Lim 6 April 2022 God disciplines those He loves Have you ever noticed that God uses both the carrot and stick approaches? In the Bible you find God challenging the Israelites with blessings and curses. Blessings if you obey and curses if they disobey. Rewards if we obey God and punishment if we don't? God's example teaches us an important way to deal with those who are immature in their thinking such as children. God disciplines those He loves because He does not want us to go the wrong way. Prov 3:11-12 (NIV) 11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke,12  because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
