Survival mode?
Do we sometimes feel like we are in survival mode? That we are just trying to keep afloat? It may be in our work, our ministry, our family or our marriage? We are just trying to get through day by day or week by week? Gideon was in such a survival mode in Judges 6:11 (NIV) The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.
In the same way, if we merely continue doing things the same way, we may well end up simply surviving, rather than getting out of it. We will not get out of survival cycle if we continue to do more of the same. Something has to change. Someone has to rise up. Someone has to confront the existing situation. Confront the survival mentality.
God challenged Gideon to get beyond the survival mode. The question for us is this. Are we willing to change? And pay the price of change?
