Reflections Wilson Lim 7 December 2022 Natural wisdom and godly wisdom... There is a difference between natural wisdom and godly wisdom. We can become rich because of natural wisdom. But natural wisdom can lead us down the path of pride, where we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. Proverbs 28:11 (NIV) 11 A rich man may be wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him. A poor man with discernment sees an arrogant man, not a wise man. One danger of having built our wealth is that we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. I am not saying only the wealthy face this problem. Many other people can become proud. Reflections Wilson Lim 6 July 2022 Our Saviour... In the movie Superman Returns, there was a scene when Superman shares to Lois Lane about how the world sees him as a saviour. Did Superman save the day? Far from it. But the Bible tells us about Jesus in Luke 19:10 (NIV) For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." Jesus has come to seek those of us who have lost their way, who are lost in their sins. Jesus has come to rescue us. Jesus truly saves because He is the only One who can. John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  The Bible is very clear. Salvation is not to be found anywhere else except through Jesus Christ. That is a very strong assertion. This is because Jesus was specifically sent by God to save us. Reflections Wilson Lim 2 February 2022 Crushed due to disappointments? Have you ever being in situations where your faith felt like it had been crushed due to some disappointments? You have felt deflated like a balloon with all its air let out? What can you do? Exodus 5:22-23 (NIV) 22  Moses returned to the LORD and said, "O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23  Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all." Moses had finally gone out to confront Pharaoh. Head held high by faith, inspired by God's encouragement, only to have his wind knocked out and leave with his tail between his legs. Moses' faith took a real battering in the hands of Pharaoh. Moses was faced with failure, he was faced with rejection and revolt from the Israelites. When we are faced with disappointments in our life or ministry, when things did not turn out the way we expected - remember Moses. He too faced a very difficult situation. His disappointment was multiplied a million fold because it affected that many people. Yet Moses rebound in His faith and led the Israelites out victoriously. So can you if you rebound in your faith! Reflections Wilson Lim 5 April 2023 High level of respect for God's Word We should have a high level of respect for what God has said in His Word. Not adding our own favourite emphasis, nor remove from it what we want to de-emphasise. Here is a story to illustrate this. A large boy ate even more than usual after Sunday school. When he was asked about it, he replied that he simply wanted to learn to pray more. And his Sunday school teacher had just taught that they needed to feast and pray. Revelation 22:18 - 19 (NIV) 18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.  19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. So let’s be people who are passionate about understanding God’s word. His instructions to us, so that we can obey Him completely! Reflections Wilson Lim 4 October 2023 God bestows His great love on us Psalm 117:1-2 Praise the Lord, all you nations, extol Him, all you peoples. For great is His love towards us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. May the words of Psalm 117 above , continue to ring true in our hearts, mind and speech on a daily basis. It is easy to lift up the Name of the Lord in good times. Nevertheless, let us not forget to magnify His Name even in the midst of trials of life. Let's continually magnify God's Name despite life circumstances. He is still the sovereign Lord in charge. God bestows His great love on us! Friends, would you choose to place your trust in God 's amazing love and faithfulness? He is the Lord who keeps to His promises and He shall never forsake us. Reflections Wilson Lim 5 July 2023 Hole in our hearts In many movies and TVs today, an idea is promoted again and again. That we will find true contentment if only we find our true soul-mate. That somehow there is this hole in our heart that simply needs a soul-mate to fill. Then we can ride off into the sunset happily ever after. Yet at the same time how untrue this is. Just look at how many movie stars, celebrities fail to find this contentment even after marrying their soul-mate. The reality is that no human being can meet this hole in our hearts. Because it was formed when we walked away from God. What David did in this psalm was to recognise that contentment is found in a person. Psalm 23:1 (NIV)  The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Jehovah Lord is the key. Because of who He is and what He is.
