- I will be with you... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 September 2025 I will be with you... God said to Moses in Exodus 3:12 (NIV) And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you…" The sense of divine call increases another notch when there is a sense of God's stamp of authorisation. For sending will not amount to much if there was no accompanying authorisation. For the person sent to properly represent, they must be given authority to act on behalf of the sender. In fact the word "send" is the Heb "shalach". From this is derived the Jewish legal concept of "shaliach", who is a legally authorised representative. An old Jewish legal maxim puts it this way, "the-one-whom-a-man-sends is like the man himself." God never sends without accompanying authorisation. Jesus has sent us into the world to impact it with the Good News and through good works. To make disciples and plant churches. And God backs us up! Matt 28:18-20 (NIV) 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - When God calls, God will provide | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 September 2023 When God calls, God will provide When God wanted to have the Tabernacle of Moses built, all the necessary resources was at hand amongst the Israelites. Exodus 35:4-5 (NIV) 4 Moses said to the whole Israelite community, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 5 From what you have, take an offering for the LORD. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the LORD an offering of gold, silver and bronze… Did you notice the way God instructed the Israelites to contribute towards the tabernacle? God only instructed the Israelites to give. There was no mention of seeking external help. The Israelites were the solution to building the tabernacle. All the necessary resources resided within the Israelites themselves. God had blessed them sufficiently. They had enough to contribute towards building the tabernacle. The principle is this. God will provide sufficient resources for His purposes through His people. Of course, we can also look outside for assistance and resources. But often, when God calls, God will provide. When God calls a church to a task, a project, God will often provide from within the local church. When a wise leadership properly manages the project, there will be sufficient from within. - Grow in our relationship with God | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 September 2022 Grow in our relationship with God I came to realise that the deepest convictions we could ever develop in our journey of faith is through our relationship with God Himself. Often, we trust the people we know well, so will we trust the God we know well. Often, we trust the people who have proven themselves to us, so will we trust the God who has proven Himself to us in our experience. Hence, a key to growing deeper in our convictions is to determine to grow in our relationship with God. How determined are you? James 4:8a (NIV84) Come near to God and he will come near to you. - Why should we follow Jesus? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 February 2023 Why should we follow Jesus? Why should we follow Jesus? Because Jesus commanded us to follow Him. Matthew 16:24 (NIV) Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” To be disciples of Jesus, we should follow Him. To follow after Him and His teachings, as given by God’s Word, the Bible. In fact, by its very definition, a disciple is someone who follows after a teacher and his teachings. If we are not really following, then perhaps we are not really disciples of Jesus. A point worth pausing to reflect upon. - Sometimes, our past can constrain us | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 August 2022 Sometimes, our past can constrain us Exodus 4:19 (NIV) Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead. Moses was once a star in Egypt, a prince. He ended up a lowly shepherd in the backside of the desert. His life was stuck in limbo because of his fear of being caught by Pharaoh. He could not move forward for 40 years because of his fear. Sometimes, our past can constrain us from moving forward in certain areas of our lives. Fears developed in our past can cause us to avoid certain situations or people. My fear of heights would have caused me to avoid being in tall buildings, or at least looking out from tall structures. I would have missed out on some incredible experiences if I did not overcome it. Are you missing out because of some fear from the past? - Respect for all in authority | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 March 2024 Respect for all in authority One of the dangers of discontent is that we tend to focus on those whom we perceive to be the source of our discontent. Usually, it is towards those in authority. Whether our parents, teachers, government officials, church leaders and so forth. However, Scripture is clear that God puts all authority into place. Rom 13:1 - 2 (NIV) 1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. If we rebel against authority, we are rebelling against the office of authority that God had instituted. When we rebel against the government, in effect we rebel against the office of government that God had established. When we rebel against our parents we rebel against the authority of parents that God has established. When we rebel against spiritual leaders, we rebel against the authority that God has established. Hence it is important that we maintain respect for all in authority. Even when we disagree, are dissatisfied or discontented. - Available to God. | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 June 2023 Available to God. Availability is crucial in building healthy relationships. We need to be present for relationships to develop. God Himself has promised to be with us, to be available. 1 Timothy 2:13 (NIV) if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. God has made Himself readily available because He recognises that it is a very important element in relationship building. The question is, are you making yourself available to build your relationships with God? Are you available to listen when God is speaking to you or trying to get your attention? - Have we grown up yet? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 May 2025 Have we grown up yet? Playing with toddlers can be so fun. But not when 20 year olds still behave like one. Have we grown up yet? Or are we still infants, toddlers in Christ? How do we know where we are? During my devotions, these verses made me pause. 1 Corinthians 3:1 - 3 (NIV) 1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? If our perspectives and attitudes still align with the world, if the ways of this world still hold much sway in our hearts, then we are still worldly. Spiritual infants. But if God's ways and His perspectives are what we grasp hold off, then we are spiritual. And our attitudes and actions will reflect that. - Absorbing the Word | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Absorbing the Word Have we made it a habit to absorb the Word of God into our hearts? 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Paul was referring to God’s Word that he had taught, which Timothy heard many times. Truths which Paul knew Timothy had absorbed into his heart and life. On the other hand, there are so many believers who have heard God's Word but because they failed to grasp it, or to absorb it into their hearts - it has made little difference in their lives. And consequently they are also unable to effectively teach and impart it to others. Have we heard and have we absorbed? In other words, have we understood God’s Word and has God’s Word become part of us? Will you determine today to seek to absorb God's Word as much as possible into our lives? - We need to simply obey God’s Word | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 April 2023 We need to simply obey God’s Word Sometimes we need to simply obey God’s Word, even in details that may seem unimportant to us. After all, the Scriptures tell us in Isa 55:8 that God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are different from ours – He knows best. Isaiah 55:8 (NIV) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. King Saul was someone who obeyed God only to a point. Saul’s obedience was only partial. In 1 Samuel 15:1-3, the prophet Samuel had instructed Saul to destroy everything from the Amalekites. But King Saul figured it was unreasonable to destroy the fine livestock. He probably thought that was just an oversight on God’s part. So he would help God, by re-interpreting the instructions to something more reasonable! Saul assumed that God wouldn’t mind if he spared Agag, the king, as a trophy of his great victory. He assumed wrong. God had said to “utterly destroy” everything. It’s easy at this point to try to vindicate Saul by thinking, “Well, he almost did everything God said to do.” But the truth of the matter is, deliberate partial obedience is actually complete disobedience.
