  • We cannot have it both ways | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 5 June 2025 We cannot have it both ways We may not like it, but Jesus put it bluntly. We cannot have it both ways. Mark 8:35 (NIV) For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. Either we are concerned only for ourselves, how we may selfishly gain things for ourselves or we willingly lose it for Jesus. If our concern is with how we get along in this world, we can never truly follow Jesus because we will simply end up compromising all the way. That's why God never gave us the option to choose both. It will never work. Either we hold onto our live as if it is everything. Or we willingly consider it as lost for the sake of gaining Christ. John 2:15 (NIV) Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Which are we choosing? • Have you ever wished you were rich? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 3 August 2022 Have you ever wished you were rich? Have you ever wished you were rich? If only we had a fat bank account? That we could walk into a department store and buy stuff without bothering to look at the price tag? There are numerous people who dream of becoming rich. There are get rich quick programs that says, “Be a Millionaire before 30”. My Dad says the closest he ever got was to have a million hair. And to own a Mercedes, even though it was a second hand 20 year-old car! There is so much out there that urges us to get rich, invest into all kinds of wealthy generating schemes, etc. And it can all be so tempting. But have we considered carefully what the Bible have to say about all this? In order that we may walk in God's way? Matthew 6:19-20 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. • God's Hope Shine | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 December 2023 God's Hope Shine While driving my kids home not too long ago, I gazed up at the sky and noticed a collection of grey clouds looming overhead, threatening to release their rain at any moment. Yet, hidden behind those grey clouds, I saw something truly marvelous: a rainbow, captivating me with its vibrant beauty. As I beheld this wondrous sight, it dawned on me that life can often throw circumstances our way that are beyond our control. These situations can seem bleak and threatening, much like those grey clouds in the sky. But just as the rainbow appeared behind those clouds, God's hope shines through the darkness of our struggles. The rainbow is a reminder of God's faithful covenant with Noah and all of humanity, a sign that we can trust in Him even when our circumstances appear dire. No matter what challenges we face, we can depend on our God to provide the strength we need to overcome and rise above. As Psalm 121:1-2 reminds us, "I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Let us hold fast to this truth, taking comfort in the knowledge that our help comes from the One who created all things and holds all things together. So the next time you find yourself facing a difficult situation, remember the rainbow in the sky and the hope it represents. Trust in God's covenantal faithfulness and lean on Him for strength, knowing that He will never leave nor forsake you. • Goodness of God | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 18 January 2024 Goodness of God In the tapestry of life, we encounter both moments of joy and seasons of challenge. Life presents us with a beautiful blend of experiences, where laughter and tears coexist. Like the ever-changing weather, a day may begin with sunshine, only to be accompanied by a storm later on. However, amidst the ebb and flow of life, there is an unwavering truth that remains steadfast. As Psalm 23:6 (NIV) affirms, "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." This verse reassures us of the abiding presence of our Good, Good Father, who watches over us with boundless love and care. No matter the circumstances we face, we can find solace in the knowledge that we are never alone. Our Heavenly Father walks beside us, guiding us through both the peaks and valleys of life. • Godliness with contentment | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 8 November 2023 Godliness with contentment 1 Timothy 6:6-10 (NIV) 6  But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8  But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9  People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

We came with nothing and will leave with nothing. Greed fools us into thinking that we can live and leave with much.
Scripture says otherwise. Godliness with contentment is great gain! Such contentment flows out of godliness! And godliness develops as we allow God to transform our hearts. • When faith gets real | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 8 October 2025 When faith gets real Would you be described as sincere in your faith? 2 Timothy 1:5 (NIV) I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. It is not how conservatively well behaved we are. It is not whether we listen to good Christian music and have nice safe Christian tastes in clothes and accessories. It is not even measured by whether we have a deep grasp of theology and have great apologetics on why we believe and what we believe. It is not even how much we have achieved in our ministry. Now, there is nothing wrong with any of the above. In fact, it would be great if you have all the above. But these are not the true measure of the sincerity of our faith, though they may provide some indicators. The sincerity of our faith is measured by the commitment we have in our hearts to Christ. Basically it means a genuine, authentic faith. The real stuff. To get to the real stuff, we have to strip away all our outer layer of Christianese. What are we going to find there? • The dangers of being conceit | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 March 2024 The dangers of being conceit I have learnt the dangers of being conceited. Often those who are conceited are blinded to their pride and arrogance. They do not see it. As far as they are concerned they deserve to be where they are because of their giftedness or greater knowledge. Proverbs 12:15 (NIV) The way of a fool seems right to him… But in reality their boasts are often empty. 2 Peter 2:18 (NIV) For they mouth empty, boastful words… Do you know what the irony is? The sad irony is that actually they know nothing. Because they were so caught up in their own self, they failed to discern truth but got caught up in their own “discoveries”. Romans 1:22 (NIV) Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools...  But because of their attitude they reject anything that does not fit their perspective. What do you think? • We can become rich... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 8 May 2024 We can become rich... Proverbs 28:11 (NIV) A rich man may be wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him. We can become rich because of natural wisdom. But natural wisdom can lead us down the path of pride, where we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. One danger of having built our wealth is that we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. I am not saying only the wealthy face this problem. Many other people can become proud. But for the rich, this is a particularly strong danger. If we have been fortunate to be wealthy or to become wealthy one day – it would be good to remember to keep humble before God! Perhaps, for some of us perhaps not being wealthy may be a blessing – otherwise we may easily become arrogant! What do you think?
