  • A freewill offering | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 November 2024 A freewill offering Exodus 35:21-22 (NIV) 21  and everyone who was willing and whose heart moved him came and brought an offering to the LORD for the work on the Tent of Meeting, for all its service, and for the sacred garments. 22  All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the LORD. The Israelites began to come forward and to give willingly unto the building of the tabernacle. All kinds of things were given as a freewill offering. A freewill offering is an offering given freely, without compulsion, without obligation. A giving because our hearts moved us. Hence it must be distinguished from tithes. Tithes are required by God. A tenth of our gross income is a tithe unto God. It is an obligation to God, not in a legalistic sense but as a principle. Freewill offerings are given on top of the tithe because we want to give freely extra. Are we giving biblically today? Where we give of our tithes and generously give beyond that, as a freewill offering? Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • God disciplines us... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 3 January 2024 God disciplines us... Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm. 23:4 Psalm 23:4 refers to the shepherd's staff. The staff was the instrument the shepherd used to deal with his sheep. It was not a weapon but a tool. Most staffs had a hooked end that the shepherd used to catch a sheep’s leg or neck to pull it out of a hole or back into the fold. The shepherd would nudge a sheep with his staff when it began to stray or when it was hesitant to move along with the flock. Sometimes we are a danger to ourselves. So God covers us by prodding us out of danger. Sometimes due to our foolishness, ignorance or stubbornness, we get ourselves into trouble. God is there to help us through it. I am not saying God will wave a wand and the problem disappears. But God is there to help us out of it – if we would turn to Him in humility. If God simply removes the trouble – we would not learn the lesson from it. Sometimes we need a few scars to remind us of our foolishness. At times God disciplines us when necessary so that we may grow up. Hebrews 12:10-11 (NIV) 10 Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. So we can trust in God’s discipline, it is meant to protect us. That is why we need not be fearful. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • God wants to prepare us for glory | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 2 August 2023 God wants to prepare us for glory The Tabernacle of Moses was built by human hands according to divine instructions. God wanted man to participate in the making of the tabernacle. In the same way, we are responsible also to prepare ourselves. Not according to human instructions but divine. We are participants in preparing the vessels of glory. God wants to prepare us for glory. But we have to cooperate with God. Work hand in hand with God. We have our part in preparing for God’s glory. 2 Tim 2:20 - 21 (NIV) 20In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Hence, we should clear out things from our lives that are ignoble. Are we filling our lives with things that are not eternal? Are we filling our lives with everything else but the glory of God! Social media, Xbox, money, accomplishments? All but the glory of God? Let's pursue what truly matters. • You are worthy | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 December 2023 You are worthy Luke 12:6-7 are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed the very hairs on your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows. It's a wonderful feeling to know just how much our Heavenly Father loves us! We are so precious to Him, and we truly matter in His eyes. It's important that we never forget who God is and the depth of His love for us. In moments of worry or fear, let's hold onto the truth of Scripture that reminds us of our worth and God's faithful presence with us. We can find comfort in knowing that whatever challenges we face, God sees us and is always there for us. So let's take heart, my friends, and trust in our loving God who cares for us deeply. Let's hold onto these precious truths and live each day with confidence, knowing that we are cherished and loved by the Creator of the universe.
