- God does not leave us... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 November 2025 God does not leave us... God does not leave us, or abandon us during difficult times. Rather, it is through the strength of our relationship with Him that we become more like Jesus who overcame the world. 1 John 5:4 - 5 (NIV) 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. The great victory we will gain in such times is our faith in God. Ironically, it is the same thing that many throw away during difficult times. Our assurance is that if we hold on to our faith in God, and don’t fall into bitterness or doubt, God will actually strengthen us at the time and manner that we need it! - God journeys with us | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 1 February 2024 God journeys with us In biblical times, the good shepherd always journeys with his sheep to ensure their safety. Another reason why we should not fear is because God assures us that He journeys with us. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. God journeys with us and will be there to help us, to strengthen us, to uphold us. God does not give us a roadmap and leave us to our own devices. He actually is with us. Though the entire journey. That is why we should turn to Him first and foremost. - Equipped for Every Good Work | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Equipped for Every Good Work There is a huge diversity in good works that the Scriptures can equip us for. In all our different roles and responsibilities. In all these different roles we can be involved in good works by being a better person and doing good things better, to God’s glory. Matthew 5:14 - 16 (NIV) 14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Scriptures can equip us to be a better friend. A better husband or wife. A better employee or boss. A better leader. A better citizen. A better missionary. A better witness for God. So let's dig into it. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - High level of respect for God's Word | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 April 2023 High level of respect for God's Word We should have a high level of respect for what God has said in His Word. Not adding our own favourite emphasis, nor remove from it what we want to de-emphasise. Here is a story to illustrate this. A large boy ate even more than usual after Sunday school. When he was asked about it, he replied that he simply wanted to learn to pray more. And his Sunday school teacher had just taught that they needed to feast and pray. Revelation 22:18 - 19 (NIV) 18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. So let’s be people who are passionate about understanding God’s word. His instructions to us, so that we can obey Him completely! - Maintaining spiritual virtues... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 4 January 2023 Maintaining spiritual virtues... 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV) For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. To maintain our muscle tone, we need to be involved in consistent exercise that stretches our muscles. If we fail to maintain regular exercise, our muscles start to lose their tone. Eventually we start to lose muscle mass and it starts being replaced by fat. In the same way, maintaining spiritual virtues and godly character requires focus, consistent spiritual disciplines and exercise. That is why we are urged to pursue! It requires some effort, some determination and some discipline. Even courage. God is there with us. God is backing us. God provides us all that we need to pursue these virtues. God provides His grace to do so. We just have to apply it. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - Near enough is good enough? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 1 February 2024 Near enough is good enough? If we are to get our obedience to God right, we need to get the details right. We need to be Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered. Often, God does not spell out all the details but when we are Spirit-led and empowered, we will get the details right. Exodus 31:2 - 3 (NIV) 2“See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts— Exodus 31:6 (NIV) 6Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you: God spelt out many details for the tabernacle but not all. Yet He empowered the craftsman to interpret God’s intention with creativity and to get it right. The detail we go to shows our attitude. Is your attitude: “Near enough is good enough” when serving God? Or is it: “Let’s get it right?” Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - We can become rich... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 May 2024 We can become rich... Proverbs 28:11 (NIV) A rich man may be wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him. We can become rich because of natural wisdom. But natural wisdom can lead us down the path of pride, where we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. One danger of having built our wealth is that we may begin to think too highly of ourselves. I am not saying only the wealthy face this problem. Many other people can become proud. But for the rich, this is a particularly strong danger. If we have been fortunate to be wealthy or to become wealthy one day – it would be good to remember to keep humble before God! Perhaps, for some of us perhaps not being wealthy may be a blessing – otherwise we may easily become arrogant! What do you think? - Seek for wisdom... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 September 2025 Seek for wisdom... Prov 1:28-31 (NIV) “ Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me. Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD, since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes." Many seek for Wisdom to get out of a disastrous situation. They think that if only they get a wise solution, they can get out of the mess. Yet Wisdom is never gained at that moment, wisdom is gained for the moment. In the times of crisis, we cannot expect to suddenly have enlightenment. To have wisdom to deal with the situation. Rather we have to develop in wisdom, nurture wisdom in our life. Then when we face moments of crisis, there is wisdom that we can rely upon. - Do not get drunk on wine | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 April 2024 Do not get drunk on wine I have learnt the dangers of being conceited. Often those who are conceited are blinded to their pride and arrogance. They do not see it. As far as they are concerned they deserve to be where they are because of their giftedness or greater knowledge. Proverbs 12:15 (NIV) The way of a fool seems right to him… But in reality their boasts are often empty. 2 Peter 2:18 (NIV) For they mouth empty, boastful words… Do you know what the irony is? The sad irony is that actually they know nothing. Because they were so caught up in their own self, they failed to discern truth but got caught up in their own “discoveries”. Romans 1:22 (NIV) Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools... But because of their attitude they reject anything that does not fit their perspective. What do you think? - Convictions in Jesus the Christ | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 August 2022 Convictions in Jesus the Christ 2 Timothy 1:12 (NIV) That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed… Paul’s convictions came out of a personal and intimate relationship with God who had called him. This begun when He had encountered Christ on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-6). He had continued to experience God’s grace again and again in his life and ministry. He had seen the miraculous power of God at work again and again. He had seen how God healed, protected, strengthened, and guided him through the most challenging times. Through all these, it deepened his convictions in Jesus the Christ. His faith was refined and his connection with Christ strengthened! I wonder if we had gone through the many challenges and victories that Paul had in his life - would we actually grow in our convictions in God? - Our conscience can be liken to spectacles | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 February 2025 Our conscience can be liken to spectacles Our conscience can be liken to spectacles. When our conscience is clear, it is like having clear spectacles. We can see better and clearer. We can begin to detect what is right or wrong more correctly. Thus, we can respond to God more easily because our spiritual eyesight is clearer. Those with a clear conscience are able to respond to God with integrity. Titus 1:15 (NIV) To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. A clear conscience makes for a healthy faith. - How is your attitude to obeying God? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 September 2023 How is your attitude to obeying God? How is your attitude to obeying God? The most fitting response to undeserved blessing is unreserved obedience! John 14:15 (NIV) “If you love me, you will obey what I command. In other words, love produces obedience, or obedience to Christ’s command is the result of genuine love. It is possible to obey Jesus words and not love Him, but it is impossible to love Him and not obey Him. Let us obey God completely because we love Him.
