Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Equipped for Every Good Work There is a huge diversity in good works that the Scriptures can equip us for. In all our different roles and responsibilities. In all these different roles we can be involved in good works by being a better person and doing good things better, to God’s glory. Matthew 5:14 - 16 (NIV) 14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Scriptures can equip us to be a better friend. A better husband or wife. A better employee or boss. A better leader. A better citizen. A better missionary. A better witness for God. Reflections Wilson Lim 6 September 2023 When God calls, God will provide When God wanted to have the Tabernacle of Moses built, all the necessary resources was at hand amongst the Israelites. Exodus 35:4-5 (NIV) 4 Moses said to the whole Israelite community, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 5 From what you have, take an offering for the LORD. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the LORD an offering of gold, silver and bronze… Did you notice the way God instructed the Israelites to contribute towards the tabernacle? God only instructed the Israelites to give. There was no mention of seeking external help. The Israelites were the solution to building the tabernacle. All the necessary resources resided within the Israelites themselves. God had blessed them sufficiently. They had enough to contribute towards building the tabernacle. The principle is this. God will provide sufficient resources for His purposes through His people. Of course, we can also look outside for assistance and resources. But often, when God calls, God will provide. When God calls a church to a task, a project, God will often provide from within the local church. When a wise leadership properly manages the project, there will be sufficient from within. Reflections Wilson Lim 3 August 2022 Sincerity of our faith Did you know that God is very concerned about the sincerity of our faith? Probably more than most of us are. Hebrews 10:22 (NIV) let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. We can all look good like good Christians on the outside. I accepted Christ in 1983. And in that time, I learnt a lot of Christianese. You got to know a lot of these if you are going to be a pastor. :) And when it comes to Christian ministry – I think I’ve got quite a lot of brownie points. But you know what? At the end of the day, when I come before Christ, it is about the sincerity of my faith. Sometimes, I forget and God will remind me! What do you think? Reflections Wilson Lim 8 November 2023 Worship God When we fail to truly worship God, we fail to discover one of our key purpose. When we fail to truly worship God, we fail to reach our highest potential. One of the things that happens when we worship is something begins to realign in our souls and spirit. We touch God and God touches us deeply. Like iron dust realign in magnetic field to the north and south magnetic poles. That is why the psalmist was happiest to dwell in God’s presence. Psalms 84:10 (NIV) Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. When we truly worship God, it brings us into a zone of fulfilment. Because that is what we were made for. Reflections Wilson Lim 2 October 2024 True contentment... Carnality is a shown by worldly desire for more. It is about “I want!” It is a desire impossible to satisfy. The more we have the more we want. More shoes, better smartphones, better laptops, more expensive cars and houses! On the other hand, true contentment is not so much about whether we have all we want. True contentment is about a state of heart where there is a satisfaction, a peace with what we have. It is no longer, “I shall not want because God provides all”. Rather it is “I shall not want because my desires have been transformed.” “Truly, the secret of contentment is not having much but wanting little.” Matthew Henry. Which state are we in today? Philippians 4:11-12 (NIV): "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." Reflections Wilson Lim 6 November 2025 The Blessings of Choosing Righteousness Psalm 23:1-4 (NIV) 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. So God’s intent is to guide us into paths of righteous living. That we may live rightly before God. Further, I believe that these paths are also intended to develop righteousness in our lives. The more we choose to walk in righteous living, it actually develops our convictions for righteousness. For we see more the benefits, the joy, the peace, the blessings that comes with righteous living. Just like exercising regularly. When we begin to feel the benefits, it encourages us and builds conviction in us about exercise. We need not fear about the nature of the paths God will guide us to. Reflections Wilson Lim 6 December 2023 What God Values Most In today's world, we often see people being celebrated for their talents, giftings, and skills, especially in popular TV reality shows. While there is nothing wrong with recognizing and cultivating these abilities, I often wonder what God values most. I believe that above all else, God is searching for hearts that are fully surrendered to Him, hearts that are willing to serve His purposes and His agenda. We don't need to have all the answers or possess every skillset right now. Instead, we can focus on developing a godly character and a willing heart to serve the Lord. As 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." In other words, God is less concerned with our outward achievements and more interested in the condition of our hearts. So let's strive to cultivate hearts that are fully devoted to God, hearts that are willing to obey Him no matter the cost. As we do so, I believe that God will equip us with whatever we need to fulfill His purposes for our lives. After all, He is faithful to complete the work that He has begun in us (Philippians 1:6). Reflections Wilson Lim 18 January 2024 Friendship with God In today's world, where social media dominates our interactions, it is easy to overlook the significance of genuine, face-to-face conversations that touch the depths of our hearts. Amidst the noise and distractions, it is crucial to recognize that God yearns for an intimate friendship with each of us. He desires not only a personal relationship with us but also encourages us to cultivate deep connections with others. Through these relationships, we can uplift and inspire one another on our journey with the Lord. John 15:15 (NIV) beautifully illustrates this truth: "I no longer call you servants because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father, I have made known to you." In this verse, Jesus invites us into a profound friendship with Him, where He shares the insights and wisdom He received from the Father. Similarly, God intends for us to experience the blessings of authentic friendships with others. These relationships provide a platform for mutual encouragement, support, and accountability in our spiritual walk. As friends, we can spur one another forward, sharing in the joys, challenges, and growth that come from pursuing the Lord together. Reflections Wilson Lim 6 July 2022 Will you pursue authenticity? Whether a person leads an authentic, consistent life, his family will be the greatest judge. They can tell, because they live with the person. They usually see the warts and all, eventually. 1 Timothy 3:12 (NIV) A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. So if a parent is able to manage his own family well and especially if there is a mutual respect from the children and spouse, it indicates spiritual authenticity. Authenticity comes from consistency in who we are, whether inside or outside. Whether in what we say and what we do. The church needs to know that the leaders they appoint are authentic. What they see is the real stuff. Authenticity starts with honesty with ourselves and with others. If we are secure in the knowledge of who we are, and not attempting to put a mask to impress others. Then we can be authentic. I have determined to be authentic. I do not want to just show my best self at church. I want to be my best self in the home and to my family. Will you pursue authenticity.
