- Giver of Wisdom | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 January 2022 Giver of Wisdom Why is it many sought wisdom but fail to find it? Because they sought Wisdom but not the Giver of wisdom, God Himself. As long as they continue to reject God, as long as they reject the source of true wisdom, true wisdom cannot be found. James 1:5 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. We cannot separate true Wisdom from God Himself. Without God, there is no true Wisdom available. Hence, we should humble ourselves to seek God and to seek to understand His ways. When we do so, we will begin to gain wisdom. - Unforgiveness and bitterness... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 September 2022 Unforgiveness and bitterness... Have you realised that our past can cause unhealthy preoccupations? For example, unforgiveness and bitterness can cause us to focus on taking revenge. Joab did not forgive army commander Abner for killing his brother Asahel in the heat of battle. Although Abner was a righteous warrior, Joab schemed against him and murdered him through deceit (2 Sam 2:8-3:27). Instead of focussing on good noble things, Joab became preoccupied with revenge. Consequently, he fell from grace before King David and before God. The sad thing is this has happened to many. Will you let this happen to you? Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. - How sincere is our faith in Christ? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 May 2024 How sincere is our faith in Christ? I came to realise that in God’s eyes, sincerity of faith comes before success. Luke 10:17 - 20 (NIV) 17 The seventy–two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”... 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Too often we celebrate our successes. Too often we forget to celebrate the sincerity of our faith. How sincere is our faith in Christ? What is our heart commitment to Him? - Respect for all in authority | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 March 2024 Respect for all in authority One of the dangers of discontent is that we tend to focus on those whom we perceive to be the source of our discontent. Usually, it is towards those in authority. Whether our parents, teachers, government officials, church leaders and so forth. However, Scripture is clear that God puts all authority into place. Rom 13:1 - 2 (NIV) 1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. If we rebel against authority, we are rebelling against the office of authority that God had instituted. When we rebel against the government, in effect we rebel against the office of government that God had established. When we rebel against our parents we rebel against the authority of parents that God has established. When we rebel against spiritual leaders, we rebel against the authority that God has established. Hence it is important that we maintain respect for all in authority. Even when we disagree, are dissatisfied or discontented. - God's perspective on disappointing situations... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 October 2022 God's perspective on disappointing situations... Have you ever considered that God's perspective on disappointing situations may be very different from yours? When Moses was rejected by Pharoah and greatly disappointed, God began to reveal His perspective on the whole matter. To Moses it was a disaster. To God, everything was proceeding as He expected. Moses had not fully understood what was going to happen. God had told Moses earlier that Pharaoh will not let the Israelite slaves go easily. Ex 3:19-20 (NIV) 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. 20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go. The situation will require God to compel Pharaoh through striking the Egyptians with divine force. In other words there was going to be a battle of wills between God and Pharaoh. It was going to be tough. People will get hurt due to the stubbornness of Pharaoh. But it will come to a point where Pharaoh will have no choice but even drive the Israelites out. Things were going to get worse, before it gets better. The important thing is Moses listened to God and hence was able to re-align his personal views to that of God's. - What fuels us? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 March 2023 What fuels us? What fuels us? I mean what keeps us going when it gets tough? What helps us get up even in the darkest morning, ready to give another go? When everyone else drops from exhaustion, what helps us get up on our feet again? John 4:34 (NIV) “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. It kept Him persevering even when people misunderstood His message. It kept Jesus going, even when He was rejected by many. It kept Him on course, even when His own disciple betrayed Him. It kept Him straight all the way to the cross at Calgary. Ever considered making God's will our fuel? - Reasons to worship God | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 3 January 2024 Reasons to worship God Psalm 98:1-3 (NIV) 1 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. 3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. This portion reminds us that there can be reasons or causes that stir us to worship God. One is having an awe of God that moves us into worship. Another is when we experience God’s blessings can bring us into a place of worship. So there are things happening around us that can be a cause for us to worship God. If you recognise God’s hand in it. You will have cause to worship when you recognise God’s hand working around us. - Realign to God's perspective | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 January 2022 Realign to God's perspective Have you noticed that our perspective is usually based on our observations. On the other hand, God observes and knows everything. Heb 4:13(NIV) Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. To us things may seem to be getting worse. To God, it is setting the scene for greater good. When the Babylonians invaded Israel, Habakkuk complained to God in Hab 1:2-4. Yet God showed Habakkuk that good will come out of this. When we realign to God's perspective, we will not be discouraged or disappointed with God. Instead we will be encouraged and inspired! - Our relationship with God... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 4 September 2024 Our relationship with God... Our relationship with God is the epicentre of all our relationships. It is central, it is the focal point. Just like an earthquake has an epicentre, so all our relationships has an epicentre. The shockwaves from our relationship with God will impact upon our relationships with others. Saul’s deteriorating relationship with God led to deteriorating relationship with others, notable David and Jonathan. Those that have no relationship with God, will find all their relationships distorted. Those who have minimal relationship with God will find minimal improvements in their relationships. When we truly experience God’s mercy upon our lives and understand its significance, it will motivate us to show mercy to others – God’s way. Luke 6:36 (NIV) Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. We are enabled to be merciful because we experience God’s mercy to us. - Be holy in all you do | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 June 2024 Be holy in all you do God’s Word challenge us in 1 Peter 1:14 - 15 (NIV) 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. The world’s perspectives and ways are earthly ways, not God’s ways. Because many of us grew up without godly parents, we often learn only from the society around us. We often think that is the only way to do things. As a result, our thinking is moulded in the world’s ways without us even realising it. Thus, we may blindly, unknowingly just follow what we knew in the past. The Bible is saying that once we lived in ignorance. We did not realise that we were being moulded in the ways of wickedness. But now that we have been enlightened, choose to be holy before God. This may mean we have to re-examine some of the ways we do things before God. Things that we grew up with. Be humble enough to let God point it out to us. Be humble enough when others point it out to us. - When we give of our tithes, God is pleased... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 August 2023 When we give of our tithes, God is pleased... When we give of our tithes, God is pleased because we obeyed His commands and honour Him. When we give of freewill offerings, God is extra pleased because we gave out of the abundance of our hearts. While Eric Hulstrand of Binford, North Dakota, was preaching one Sunday, an elderly woman, Mary, fainted and struck her head on the end of the pew. Immediately, an EMT in the congregation called an ambulance. As they strapped her to a stretcher and got ready to head out the door, Mary regained consciousness. She motioned for her daughter to come near. Everyone thought she was summoning her strength to convey what could be her final words. The daughter leaned over until her ear was at her mother's mouth. "My offering is in my purse," she whispered. How is that for dedicated giving? Where is our hearts today? 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NIV Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. - Follow God’s way | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 6 November 2025 Follow God’s way Sin is stubborn self-will, where we have chosen to do things our way rather than God’s way. To what degree have I chosen God’s way? Not a comfortable question sometimes. Philippians 3:14 - I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
