- Dealing with disappointments... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 September 2022 Dealing with disappointments... All of us have to deal with disappointments. Disappointments can be harsh, stripping away at our dreams. We may be disappointed because what we wanted does not turn out. Or because we were humiliated, our ego was bruised. Yet we can embrace disappointments as our friend. Such times of disappointments can be crucial times that force us to evaluate what is truly important to us. For when we have plenty, it is easy to get caught up with the peripherals. And the peripherals begin to replace the fundamentals in our hearts. Often we are disappointed over issues which are not the main issues. It is while we wrestle through such issues with God, that it will help us come out leaner, trimmed down. Perhaps more godly and holier. Moses came out wiser and more assured of God's purposes. How about approaching your disappointments this way? Psalm 40:1-3 “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - Can all of creation worship? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 February 2023 Can all of creation worship? Can all of creation worship? Is it even possible? Rev 5:13 (NIV) Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” I used to deal with this verse by saying every creature must mean humans in submarines, on aeroplanes and on land. But when I study it deeper, it means literally every creature will worship God. From the eagles in the air, to the mice on the land to the starfish in the sea. And they are literally singing a song of honor and worship unto God. Now they may not sing it in human language – but they will sing the substance of worship. This is reinforced in another psalm. Psalms 148:7 - 12 (NIV) 7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, 9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, 11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, 12 young men and maidens, old men and children. - True contentment is found in a Person | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 October 2024 True contentment is found in a Person True contentment is found in a Person, rather than in things or achievements. The process towards true contentment starts with us recognising that God is that Person. For only God has the capability, and the concern to do so. 1 Timothy 6:6-7 (NIV) "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it." Beyond that, it is crucial that we develop an authentic and right relationship with God. For that provides the foundation to developing true contentment. And it is out of the continual interaction with God, that our hearts begin to be transformed. Where we begin to be satisfied, at peace with what we have. Let's pursue this Person of Christ. - The Lord will guide you always | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 8 November 2023 The Lord will guide you always As I reflect upon connecting with God, I am so grateful to the Lord that He is my Guide! Not just once or twice, but consistently as I seek Him with respect to matters of life. He gives me the confidence to face life with faith and hope as I allow Him to lead and guide me. I remembered those times when I felt I was in the wilderness or at crossroads. Yet each time as I sought His face, the Lord in His kindness, has never ceased to once again guide me and further refreshes me and grants me another extra dollop of His hope! Indeed Papa God is my oasis, He causes my spiritual wells to be well nourished by His living waters that flows through my entire being as I continue to connect closely with Him. Friends, would you consider that in your relationship with Jesus? May the following scripture encourage you! Isaiah 58:11 (NIV) 11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - How can our children learn about authority? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 December 2022 How can our children learn about authority? Deut 8:5 (NIV) Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. How can our children learn about authority? When we exercise it consistently and firmly in a godly fashion, with grace, with justice. If we allow our children to step all over us, they will not understand nor appreciate authority. Parents should make the ultimate decisions in the home, not our children. Of course we should consider our children's feelings, etc but we must make the family decisions. - How then should we love? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 4 May 2022 How then should we love? How then should we love? The correct priority was given by Jesus Himself in Matthew 22:37 - 39 (NIV) 37Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ So, first love God with all that we are. That is the highest priority. Then love our neighbour as we love ourselves. In The City of God, Augustine wrote, “Two cities have been founded by two loves, the earthly by the love of self, even to the contempt of God. The heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self. The former, in a word, glorifies itself, the latter the Lord.” We should examine our own hearts carefully and honestly. Do we love ourselves more than God? If so, we need to repent of this misdirected love and turn our love to God instead. Otherwise we may find ourselves amongst the unholy lovers. - Have we grown up yet? | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 7 May 2025 Have we grown up yet? Playing with toddlers can be so fun. But not when 20 year olds still behave like one. Have we grown up yet? Or are we still infants, toddlers in Christ? How do we know where we are? During my devotions, these verses made me pause. 1 Corinthians 3:1 - 3 (NIV) 1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? If our perspectives and attitudes still align with the world, if the ways of this world still hold much sway in our hearts, then we are still worldly. Spiritual infants. But if God's ways and His perspectives are what we grasp hold off, then we are spiritual. And our attitudes and actions will reflect that. - Maintaining spiritual virtues... | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 4 January 2023 Maintaining spiritual virtues... 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV) For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. To maintain our muscle tone, we need to be involved in consistent exercise that stretches our muscles. If we fail to maintain regular exercise, our muscles start to lose their tone. Eventually we start to lose muscle mass and it starts being replaced by fat. In the same way, maintaining spiritual virtues and godly character requires focus, consistent spiritual disciplines and exercise. That is why we are urged to pursue! It requires some effort, some determination and some discipline. Even courage. God is there with us. God is backing us. God provides us all that we need to pursue these virtues. God provides His grace to do so. We just have to apply it. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... - Kingdom Builders | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Kingdom Builders In Neh 3:2-7, the images we get from this record are whole groups of diverse people worked together side by side. The chapter records the construction from the Sheep Gate and going anti-clockwise, the construction of the wall around the entire city until it returns to the Sheep Gate in v32. Shoulder to shoulder these worked to rebuild the walls. The key lesson is this: teamwork brought this tremendous work to completion. Teamwork will accomplish far more than separate efforts. From the time the first exiles returned to Jerusalem until the time of Nehemiah it was about 90 years. Yet in all that time, no one rebuilt the walls! But when Nehemiah came he pulled the people together to rebuild the walls. Once they worked together, it only took them 52 days! There is tremendous power in synergy. When all agree to work together at the same time. Let's work in teams together to advance God's Kingdom. - Absorbing the Word | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Absorbing the Word Have we made it a habit to absorb the Word of God into our hearts? 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Paul was referring to God’s Word that he had taught, which Timothy heard many times. Truths which Paul knew Timothy had absorbed into his heart and life. On the other hand, there are so many believers who have heard God's Word but because they failed to grasp it, or to absorb it into their hearts - it has made little difference in their lives. And consequently they are also unable to effectively teach and impart it to others. Have we heard and have we absorbed? In other words, have we understood God’s Word and has God’s Word become part of us? Will you determine today to seek to absorb God's Word as much as possible into our lives? - With Us Every Step | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 9 January 2025 With Us Every Step In biblical times, the good shepherd always journeys with his sheep to ensure their safety. Another reason why we should not fear is because God assures us that He journeys with us. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. God journeys with us and will be there to help us, to strengthen us, to uphold us. God does not give us a roadmap and leave us to our own devices. He actually is with us. Though the entire journey. That is why we should turn to Him first and foremost. - Relationship with God | Wilson & Lai Ling
Reflections Wilson Lim 5 July 2023 Relationship with God How does our relationship with God help cultivate true contentment in us? It helps us realise that God is a good, caring Father. Jeremiah Burroughs explained, "Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God's wise and fatherly disposal in every condition." What does that mean? Contentment is we reach that point in our faith journey where we are thankful for what we have and remain patient in the midst of challenges. Even though we don’t fully understand, but we still trust in God’s hand. Hebrews 13:5 (NIV) 5 …be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." The fact that God is with us, is sufficient. We can be contented. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us...
