  • How willing are we to listen to the Spirit of God in us? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 August 2025 How willing are we to listen to the Spirit of God in us? How willing are we to listen to the Spirit of God in us? Do we welcome, even seek His input? Or do we put Him in a box with our fixed logic and perspectives? For intellectuals such as myself, it is always a challenge not to constrain the Spirit with my thinking but instead to constrain myself and allow the Spirit to speak as He wishes. 1 Corinthians 2:11 - 12 (NIV) 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. If all believers do this more, there would be more unity and harmony in all our midst. Lord, may you speak and I, your humble servant, pause my thoughts till you have finished. • Humility is the antidote to being conceited. | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 April 2022 Humility is the antidote to being conceited. Humility is the antidote to being conceited. Humility begins when we begin to realise that there is much we do not know nor understand. Humility begins when we recognise we need God. And when we begin to humble ourselves, God begins to guide us. Psalms 25:9 (NIV) 9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. God will bless the humble. James 4:6 (NIV) “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Let us be humble and find the grace of God. Amen? • Will you pursue authenticity? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 July 2022 Will you pursue authenticity? Whether a person leads an authentic, consistent life, his family will be the greatest judge. They can tell, because they live with the person. They usually see the warts and all, eventually. 1 Timothy 3:12 (NIV) A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. So if a parent is able to manage his own family well and especially if there is a mutual respect from the children and spouse, it indicates spiritual authenticity. Authenticity comes from consistency in who we are, whether inside or outside. Whether in what we say and what we do. The church needs to know that the leaders they appoint are authentic. What they see is the real stuff. Authenticity starts with honesty with ourselves and with others. If we are secure in the knowledge of who we are, and not attempting to put a mask to impress others. Then we can be authentic. I have determined to be authentic. I do not want to just show my best self at church. I want to be my best self in the home and to my family. Will you pursue authenticity. • Be honest to God | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 9 March 2022 Be honest to God I have come to realise that it is important to be able to talk honestly with God about issues. Exodus 5:22-23 (NIV) 22  Moses returned to the LORD and said, "O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23  Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all." Moses began to talk honestly before God. It was not a complaining, whining, grumbling download. But it was an honest heart to heart. Moses had valid questions and issues to raise with God. It is OK to be honest to God. To express your feelings with God. Although we should be mindful to be respectful. The prophet Habakkuk was frank with God. Hab 1:2 (NIV) How long, O LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? See how honest Habakkuk is to God about the situation? • Godliness with contentment | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 8 November 2023 Godliness with contentment 1 Timothy 6:6-10 (NIV) 6  But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8  But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9  People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

We came with nothing and will leave with nothing. Greed fools us into thinking that we can live and leave with much.
Scripture says otherwise. Godliness with contentment is great gain! Such contentment flows out of godliness! And godliness develops as we allow God to transform our hearts. • We should not give in a minimalist way... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 November 2024 We should not give in a minimalist way... Exodus 36:3-5 (NIV) 3 …the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning. 4 So all the skilled craftsmen who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left their work 5 and said to Moses, "The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the LORD commanded to be done." The people continued to give morning after morning. There was an incredible line of people just lining up to give towards God’s work. Until the craftsman had to cry out “stop”. Such was the heart of the people that wanted to give more than enough for the completion of God’s work. Even the workers were generous in their time and skills commitment. We should not give in a minimalist way but in a generous way, giving more than enough. Because we desire to see the glory of God’s work. King David demonstrated this principle in his preparation for the building of God’s temple. 1 Chr 29:2 - 5 (NIV) 2With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, … and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities. 3Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple…” He gave with great abundance so that one day his son Solomon may build this magnificent temple for God. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we can do likewise? Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • Gifted For A Purpose | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 8 October 2025 Gifted For A Purpose God gives us gifts. God gives us natural gifts which we have to develop in our lifetime. It may be a giftedness in music, or writing, or in speaking, analysing, in leading, etc. God also gives spiritual gifts when we first come to Christ. These often add upon our natural giftedness. God gives gifts along the way through prayer or impartation. 1 Timothy 4:14 (NIV) Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. God gives to every believer giftedness, so that we may effectively serve the church. One of the keys is to recognise what God has gifted you. Do you know what yours are? • How much do we want God? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 2 February 2022 How much do we want God? Why is it that one Christian can come into a Sunday service and encounter God while another can sit right beside him and encounter nothing except a pesky fly? One experiences the kabod glory and is weeping, repenting, rejoicing, strengthened, etc. While another is just swatting the fly. The Scriptures assure us that if we seek God wholeheartedly, we will find Him. Jer 29:13 (NIV) You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. The more intensely, the more desperately even, we seek God - the greater the likelihood of encountering God. How much do we want God? • Many challenges... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 5 July 2023 Many challenges... Consider this. In life, we are faced with all kinds of challenges. The stress of navigating life and dealing with the all the unknowns waiting to pounce at us. Whether it be our health situation. Whether it be the security of our career or income. Whether we find the right partner. Our future. Daily life itself throws up many challenges. How to deal with difficulties in relationships. How to deal with our own emotions. How to make decisions in major areas. The pressures at work. Let alone when crisis pops up of nowhere. We were never meant to navigate all of life’s challenges by ourselves. This is why we need God our Creator. God who is all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful. He can help us through what we really struggle to work through. Perhaps the big question in the mind of some is, will He? Well, the great assurance to us is that God’s heart of that of a shepherd. John 10:11 (NIV) "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. Let's come to the good shepherd today. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • God Sees the Heart | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 God Sees the Heart We may do what seems the right thing but what matters most is whether our hearts are in the right place before God. God warned in Old Testament times that even the very ceremonies that God required would become offensive to Him. Isaiah 66:3 (NIV) But whoever sacrifices a bull is like one who kills a man, and whoever offers a lamb, like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever makes a grain offering is like one who presents pig’s blood, and whoever burns memorial incense, like one who worships an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and their souls delight in their abominations; This occurs when we have chosen in our hearts to go our own ways, rather than God's ways. When we inwardly rebel though outwardly we may still do what seem right. May we always watch our hearts before God! • God can use the lowest of the lowest | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 5 June 2025 God can use the lowest of the lowest Are you lowly? Are you insignificant? Have you been despised? Congratulations! God would like to use you. 1 Corinthians 1:27 - 29 (NIV) 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. God can use the lowest of the lowest, the most foolish of the foolish, the most despicable of the despised - for His glory! If we would humbly yield to Him, God will take the most lowly of materials to mould into a noble instrument in His hands. Just as He took dirt and formed Adam. So can He will you. • What are we building for God? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 August 2025 What are we building for God? I have the heart of an engineer. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed my time in engineering. Even though I am no longer in CSIRO, I enjoy being an engineer for God, building His Church. So this Scripture continue to challenge me. 1 Corinthians 3:12 - 15 (NIV) 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. What are we building for God? If we have built with pure hearts and build well, it will stand up scrutiny before God and we will receive our rewards. But if we built with impure motives, it will be burnt up and we will have little to show. Let us examine carefully what we build for Him.
