Reflections Wilson Lim 2 February 2022 Crushed due to disappointments? Have you ever being in situations where your faith felt like it had been crushed due to some disappointments? You have felt deflated like a balloon with all its air let out? What can you do? Exodus 5:22-23 (NIV) 22 Moses returned to the LORD and said, "O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23 Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all." Moses had finally gone out to confront Pharaoh. Head held high by faith, inspired by God's encouragement, only to have his wind knocked out and leave with his tail between his legs. Moses' faith took a real battering in the hands of Pharaoh. Moses was faced with failure, he was faced with rejection and revolt from the Israelites. When we are faced with disappointments in our life or ministry, when things did not turn out the way we expected - remember Moses. He too faced a very difficult situation. His disappointment was multiplied a million fold because it affected that many people. Yet Moses rebound in His faith and led the Israelites out victoriously. So can you if you rebound in your faith! Reflections Wilson Lim 9 November 2022 Promises from Scripture... Have you ever found God reminding you of some promises from Scripture? Why do you did God recall the promises in Ex 6:6-8 to Moses? It was to rebuild their conviction in God who is faithful to His promises. God has sworn an oath upon his own sacred name that He will do what He has promised. Isa 46:11 (NIV) From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do. To rebound we must rebuild our confidence in God. Heb 10:35 (NIV) So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. Loving God was the first, the greatest, the most important relationship we could ever have! Loving God captures the essence behind the first 4 commandments! In fact, if we truly love God, we would fulfil the first 2 commandments automatically! Reflections Wilson Lim 6 July 2022 When we reject or fail to seek God... When we reject or fail to seek God, that is when we miss out on His blessings. Even just a little here, a little there – it can unravel us. Proverbs 6:10 - 11 (NIV) 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— 11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. For example, in 2011 much of the Brisbane CBD was flooded due to the release of excess water from the Wivenhoe Dam as it was at risk of exceeding its maximum capacity during an intense wet season. There has been an enquiry made into how the Wivenhoe Dam was managed. The issue were whether the engineers managing the dam could have helped to avoid/minimise the flood. Perhaps if they were listening to God’s wisdom, they might have been able to release more water gradually out of the dam earlier rather than a huge release at a critical juncture, and spared much inundation of homes and the city. What a pity when we choose our way and live life missing out on the abundant blessings God has promised and destined us for. Reflections Wilson Lim 2 August 2023 Timing can make a huge difference. We ought to learn to carry out what God has commanded WHEN He commands. Why? Because delayed obedience is disobedience! King Saul was unable to wait for God in 1 Sam 13. He was a man who was either disobeying God, or was too eager and ended up rushing ahead of God. Obedience too early or too late can be disobedience. We need to obey God in God’s time! Watchman Nee was a preacher and writer greatly used of God in China. As a young man, he was attracted to a Christian girl, Charity Chang. But he quickly discovered that she did not share his passion for God. She was more concerned about worldly matters. God challenged him one day as he read Ps 73:25, “There is none on earth that I desire beside thee.” “You have a consuming desire upon earth. You should give up your attachment for Miss Chang. What qualification has she to be a preacher’s wife?” He tried to bargain with God. Finally, he gave in and threw himself into the ministry. He made a God-centred decision. This was not the end of the story. Years later, God worked a radical change in Charity’s life and she became a devoted follower of Christ. God caused both to cross paths again and they became man and wife! Timing can make a huge difference. Reflections Wilson Lim 2 April 2025 Kingdom Builders In Neh 3:2-7, the images we get from this record are whole groups of diverse people worked together side by side. The chapter records the construction from the Sheep Gate and going anti-clockwise, the construction of the wall around the entire city until it returns to the Sheep Gate in v32. Shoulder to shoulder these worked to rebuild the walls. The key lesson is this: teamwork brought this tremendous work to completion. Teamwork will accomplish far more than separate efforts. From the time the first exiles returned to Jerusalem until the time of Nehemiah it was about 90 years. Yet in all that time, no one rebuilt the walls! But when Nehemiah came he pulled the people together to rebuild the walls. Once they worked together, it only took them 52 days! There is tremendous power in synergy. When all agree to work together at the same time. Let's work in teams together to advance God's Kingdom. Reflections Wilson Lim 3 January 2024 He does great things... Job 37:5 "God's voice thunders in marvellous ways; He does great things beyond our understanding." This is a powerful verse that speaks of the majesty and power of God's voice. It describes how God's voice thunders in ways that are beyond our understanding, and how He performs great and wonderful things that are beyond our comprehension. The verse invites us to marvel at the awesome power of God and to recognize that His ways are beyond our understanding. As humans, we often try to make sense of the world around us and to understand God's plans for our lives. However, there are times when we simply cannot understand why certain things happen or why God answers our prayers in the way that He does. Let us pray unceasingly to Papa God whilst being as equally thankful that God's answers are wiser than our prayers. God always has our best interests at heart, even when we can't see it. We may not always understand His plans, but we can trust that He is in control and that He is working all things for our good. Reflections Wilson Lim 3 July 2024 How is biblical restitution like? How is biblical restitution like? In the Old Testament, restitution has to be repaid for stolen goods. Usually it is double its value. Exodus 22:3 - 4 (NIV) 3 ...“A thief must certainly make restitution, but if he has nothing, he must be sold to pay for his theft. 4“If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession—whether ox or donkey or sheep—he must pay back double. The principle of restitution is that the owner should be repaid back not only the original costs but receive compensation for the troubles he faced due to the theft. It also teaches the thief that they must be held responsible for not only the theft but the effects of the theft. Cor 3:18 (NIV) And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. When we truly experience God's, our attitudes, words, outward actions etc ought to change to be more and more like Christ. Should someone say they have experienced God, but their lives never change - I doubt it. Because that deep revelatory experience of God, whether through His Word or His touch upon our lives, will impact us and transform our convictions. Reflections Wilson Lim 7 June 2023 God's instructions are clear... Samuel the prophet urged King Saul to take careful note of what God was about to instruct him in 1 Samuel 15:1 (NIV) Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD." King Saul had to hear God clearly properly and destroy the Amalekites. But he presumptuously thought he could change what God instructed to his own benefit. As a result, he was rejected by God. God’s instructions are clear and precise. Whenever we get confused, we just need to go back to what was actually said. Many times when things become unclear. I can get clarity by simply getting back to what God had clearly said. What did God actually say as opposed to what I thought God said? Sometimes we may have heard from God, but we distort what God actually said to what we want to hear Him say. Perhaps God said, "Buy a cheap car!" and we reason to ourselves that God gave us permission to buy an expensive car. Such distorted hearing, leads to distorted obedience and that is dis-obedience! It reinforces in our hearts that God is faithful to the very end. God will lead us to completion of His purposes. Rom 4:21 (NIV) being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have composers to write songs of thanksgiving in our church to give thanks to God for His past acts and future deliverances? In fact, you can write your own songs of praise to give thanks to God for what He has done in your life and what you are looking forward to. Phil 4:11-12 (NIV) 11…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Scriptures teaches us to be content with whatever worldly and material blessings. But it never teaches us to be contented with our spiritual stature. Phil 3:10 (NIV) I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Paul was an old man when he wrote this letter. Yet he was still not satisfied with his experience of God. He wanted more. Phil 3:12-14 (NIV) Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
