Reflections Wilson Lim 7 June 2023 God's instructions are clear... Samuel the prophet urged King Saul to take careful note of what God was about to instruct him in 1 Samuel 15:1 (NIV)  Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD." King Saul had to hear God clearly properly and destroy the Amalekites. But he presumptuously thought he could change what God instructed to his own benefit. As a result, he was rejected by God. God’s instructions are clear and precise. Whenever we get confused, we just need to go back to what was actually said. Many times when things become unclear. I can get clarity by simply getting back to what God had clearly said. What did God actually say as opposed to what I thought God said? Sometimes we may have heard from God, but we distort what God actually said to what we want to hear Him say. Perhaps God said, "Buy a cheap car!" and we reason to ourselves that God gave us permission to buy an expensive car. Such distorted hearing, leads to distorted obedience and that is dis-obedience! Reflections Wilson Lim 4 January 2023 God knows what we need... Did you know that God leads us with full appreciation of our weaknesses and limitations? Heb 4:15 (NIV) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. We have the assurance that God not only knows about our weaknesses. But God had experienced our weaknesses and thus is able to empathise with us. And that is why the Bible describes Jesus as interceding for us. God also understands how much we can cope with. He understands our human limitations, whether physical, emotional or spiritual. Psa 144:3 - 4 (NIV) O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow. God knows what we need, when we need it and how we need it. Even Jesus knew when His disciples needed to rest. God does not drive us or push us without concern for our limitations. Reflections Wilson Lim 8 February 2023 Why should we follow Jesus? Why should we follow Jesus? Because Jesus commanded us to follow Him. Matthew 16:24 (NIV) Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” To be disciples of Jesus, we should follow Him. To follow after Him and His teachings, as given by God’s Word, the Bible. In fact, by its very definition, a disciple is someone who follows after a teacher and his teachings. If we are not really following, then perhaps we are not really disciples of Jesus. A point worth pausing to reflect upon. Reflections Wilson Lim 3 April 2024 God will provide generously 1 Timothy 6:17b (NIV) …but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. When we pursue after God first, rather than wealth – it does not mean we become poor and destitute because we run away from wealth. The Bible never speaks about fleeing from wealth. It speaks about feeling idolatry, sexual immorality, wicked deeds, greed, but never wealth. It is ok to be wealthy and God does bless some of His people to be wealthy. God will provide generously. God wants us to be able to enjoy the fruits of our labour. Isaiah 65:22 (NIV) ...For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. Reflections Wilson Lim 9 November 2022 We may seem insignificant amongst people. We may seem insignificant amongst people. But God knows His chosen instrument well. Despite our family background, our past, our social background, our age perhaps, or feeling like being a nobody, God makes us into somebody because of Christ. Whether we have feelings of intimidation, being overlooked, being underqualified . Jesus is impartial to all, He will use anyone to fulfil His work for the good of all. One’s significance may not just be a periodic battle, but it can be our very daily grind! Remember God’s Word when you are hit by feelings of insignificance. 1 Cor 1:27(NIV) But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. Reflections Wilson Lim 7 August 2024 Contentment in the next life Our relationships with God helps us renew our focus on the blessed hope. The more deeply we walk with God, we realize that our journey leads heavenward. As this realisation deepens, we become less concerned about our life on this world. The pressures of this world that creates discontent will have less pull upon our hearts. The challenges of this world become more like inconveniences. Because we are more excited about heaven and being with our Shepherd. For we have invested our contentment in the next life. Where have you invested your contentment in? Hebrews 13:5 (NIV): "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'"
