  • Encounter with God | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 7 May 2025 Encounter with God If you just had your greatest encounter with God, what would you do next? Mark 9:2 - 5 (NIV) 2 … There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” Peter, James and John had a revelation of God's glory they have never experienced before. It was a tremendous miracle before their very eyes. Jesus shone with glory and Elijah and Moses appeared. The two greatest prophets in the OT. Peter was so excited about his experience of God. "This is it. I have reached the pinnacle of my experience with God. This is the experience of all experiences of God. This is THE experience. I have made it - God has counted me so close to His heart that He chose to reveal His glory to me! So let's make 3 shelters. So that we can continue to be in awe at this tremendous revelation. We can all camp here. We don't need to go any further. Let's stay put." Many Christians say the same thing. Let's stop right here - in our experience of God and just enjoy it. We are contented with our present experience with God. No need to journey any further. Do we put our focus on the experience and stop there? Or do we continue to follow Jesus and let Him lead us further? Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • Is Your Discontent Holy? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 18 January 2024 Is Your Discontent Holy? Holy discontent is about having righteous attitudes towards sin, injustice, poverty, oppression, etc. Holy discontent is therefore not focussed on our own needs but the needs of others. 1 Cor 10:24 (NIV) Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. Holy discontent was seen in David’s dissatisfaction with the Israelites response to Goliath’s taunts (1 Sam 17:4-47). 1 Sam 17:45 (NIV) David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. David’s concern was against defiance of God! Discontent is holy when we are concerned about our government’s ineptitude or lack of care for its citizens. Discontent is holy when we are troubled with the way our parents may be treating the rest of the family and motivates us to find a way to improve things. Such holy discontent moves us to act in a positive manner. Is your discontent holy? Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • Who is God to you now? | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 5 October 2022 Who is God to you now? The important question is: Who is God to you now? If you consider God to be puny, then you will not take much comfort from God's promise to be with you. If you consider God to be unreliable then you will not put much trust on Him. If you consider God to be indifferent to your plight, then you will not expect much support from Him. If you consider God to be a killjoy, then you may not want His ways. On the other hand, if we remember that God is Almighty who carved a path through the Red Sea when the Israelites seemed doomed, then we would look in expectation to God's deliverance. If we remember that God is our Provider who provided manna from heaven to the Israelites in the desert, then we will look to Him for His provision. If we remember that God is a loving God who sacrificed Jesus on the cross to save us, then we will rest assured in His destiny for our lives. So what is God to you today? Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. • Convictions in Jesus the Christ | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 3 August 2022 Convictions in Jesus the Christ 2 Timothy 1:12 (NIV)  That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed… Paul’s convictions came out of a personal and intimate relationship with God who had called him. This begun when He had encountered Christ on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-6). He had continued to experience God’s grace again and again in his life and ministry. He had seen the miraculous power of God at work again and again. He had seen how God healed, protected, strengthened, and guided him through the most challenging times. Through all these, it deepened his convictions in Jesus the Christ. His faith was refined and his connection with Christ strengthened! I wonder if we had gone through the many challenges and victories that Paul had in his life - would we actually grow in our convictions in God? • Intimacy With God | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 9 March 2022 Intimacy With God Knowing about God intellectually lays a foundation for us to know God intimately. Yet it is the experiential knowledge of God that gives our relationship with God the intimacy. Often what we experience helps deepen our conviction in a greater way about God. It really helps for us to remember our experiences of God. What you know of God. What you have encountered of God. Deut 8:2 (NIV) Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.  Psa 40:5 (NIV) Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Can I suggest that it is useful to write down all the different ways you have experienced God. Let it encourage you. Especially in difficult times. • The LORD is my shepherd | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 3 May 2023 The LORD is my shepherd A fussy customer regularly eats at a restaurant. With considerable effort, the chef produced an excellent meal that even this customer could not possibly complain about. Calling the chef to complain, the customer said, “I am complaining about the fact I can’t find anything to complain about.” Have you ever been discontented with some things? Probably lots of things! Yet at times discontent can be troubling, like a burden weighing upon our soul. Draining joy from our hearts. Especially when we cannot seem to find contentment in our lives. It is like an itch that you cannot scratch away. Yet when we walk with God, Psalms 23:1 holds out the promise that we will find contentment. Psalm 23:1 (NIV) The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Shall we let Him be our source of contentment? • God will be our deliverer | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 2 July 2025 God will be our deliverer I take comfort in knowing always that we have a God like no other! One who is concerned enough with the cries of His people to come and take action on behalf of His people. Blessed are those who wait upon God, for God will be our deliverer. Isaiah 64:4 (NIV) 4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. • Our biggest problem... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 6 July 2022 Our biggest problem... Do you know our biggest problem in our lives is sin? Often in the Gospels, we find that Jesus is more interested in dealing with the main problem first. And that is the old-fashion word sin. Sin is shown by our selfishness, self-centeredness. I want to do things my own way. Isa 53:6 (NIV) "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; ..." This separates us from God. (Isa 59:2 NIV) "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." It is this sin that is the root of most problems in our lives and in this world today. It can only be dealt with properly when people choose to listen to God and to follow Him. The first step is to turn to God and recognise our sin. And God will forgive us. Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link Recent Posts See All God does not leave us... • Why doesn’t God perform miracles... | Wilson & Lai Ling

Reflections Wilson Lim 9 November 2022 Why doesn’t God perform miracles... Have you ever wondered why God does not just do amazing miracles to convince us all to believe? If God simply overwhelmed with incredible demonstrations of His power, then the hardened heart may reluctantly admit that God is God. Not because they really had faith, but because they had no answer to refute God. Yet the heart condition had not changed. It is still hard! They will find other excuses later on to disbelief or not to follow God. That is why I believe God often uses the more subtle approach. Because God seeks to expose the true heart condition. That is why Jesus said in John 20:29 (NIV) 29  "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." One day when we stand before the judgment seat of God, we will have no excuses. God will point to various incidents and say - that shows the condition of your heart!
